It’s that time again!
I got so much great feedback on my 2010 Gift Guide that I knew I needed to revisit the guide for 2011. Of course, all of my ideas from last year still stand, but here are a few new ideas to add to your list.
Calendar Journal
I love calendars, and this is the cutest present and such a cool idea for a family with a new baby. It would look so pretty in a ceramic berry box like this one from Crate and Barrel.
A Monthly Delivery Box

How fun would it be to surprise a friend or family member with a subscription to Birchbox (beauty samples) or Lollihop (healthy, organic snacks)? Most services like these have the option to buy a 1-3 month gift subscription. I’m especially excited about the new Turntable Kitchen Pairings Box – a curated food and music discovery box!

A CSA Share

Another great monthly gift option is a CSA share! You can use LocalHarvest.org to find one near you or your gift recepient.
Gifts for Pampering

This year, I’m especially smitten with the idea of filling stockings with gifts for pampering, like this gorgeous eye makeup compact from Stila, or these AHAVA Dead Sea Salt wands for your bath, or this lovely Jurlique Rose Love Balm. And who doesn’t love a new scarf? I want one of these gauze scarves in every color, thanks.
And if you’re in the mood for DIY, you could make a batch of bath fizzies or a sea salt body scrub or a peppermint foot scrub. Cheap, easy, and totally indulgent.
Foodie Gifts
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Running Foodie Gift Guide without lots of foodie gift recommendations!
If you want to do the cooking yourself, consider making preserved lemons, BBQ sauce, enchilada sauce, nut butters (my two favorites), energy truffles, or a chai concentrate.
If you’re gifting to a cook or foodie, I love the idea of receiving an ingredient that I wouldn’t pick up normally or might consider a splurge, like whole vanilla beans, saffron, star anise pods, whole nutmegs, or fancy sea salts (like pink Himalayan, wild porcini, or truffle). I would also love to open some fancy coffee, unique pasta, or crazy chocolate, like these Chuao chocolate bars, which come in fun flavors like Potato Chip, Earl Grey, and Firecracker (with chipotle, sea salt, and popping candy!).
- could eat biscotti yourself at all hours of the day or,
- could give some biscotti away as a gift. Maybe in a gift basket with some mugs and a delicious tea sampler or a pound of coffee?
I have one box of each flavor to give away to a lucky Running Foodie reader. Just comment below telling me about the best gift you have ever given. The giveaway will run until midnight PST on Friday, December 2 and I’ll announce the winner (selected via Random.org) on Saturday.
Good luck, and happy giving!

Thanks for including me on the list! The best gift I’ve ever given was a wedding photo album I designed and had printed for my brother in law + sister in law. It was about 3yrs past their wedding and they didn’t have an album yet and I had a copy of the photographers photos. I was practically jumping in anticipation to give it to them. So fun!

The best gift I ever gave was to my mom on her 50th birthday. She was in Paris, and I used my limited French to compose a letter (with the help of a French friend) to her small hotel, asking them to do me a huge favor and arrange a surprise set of gifts in her room. I sent my credit card info, and they purchased nice wine, olive oils, breads, cheeses, chocolates, a table cloth, and some gorgeous flowers. It was all arranged in her room when she and my dad got home to get ready for dinner, and she was floored. Of course, she assumed my dad had done it, but he had no idea, so it was even more fun!!

I really enjoy giving gifts that I have “listened” for throughout the year for my kids.
They always forget and the surprise on their faces when they remember they wanted something is priceless.

Megan-Thank you for this wonderful list!!! The biscotti looks awesome!
The best gift I’ve ever given was probably a homemade fortune cookie with a special note for a dear friend of mine. He was very very confused when he opened it…didn’t realize it was not a generic factory-made one.

Thanks for the chance!
The best gift I’ve given? Maybe a handmade costume to my costume loving little guy, or a freezer full of frozen meals to my grandma — I’m not sure.

I want all of these things.
Best gift ever? Hmmm. That’s so hard. OH! My grandma bought me a plane ticket when I was in the Peace Corps so I could come home for Christmas after 16 months abroad. Best gift ever.

I think the best present I have ever given was probably a photo video I created for my boyfriend and my anniversary. We’re still together after 3 years, so it must have worked

Jut found this blog, I think I will try the overnight oats recipe you posted. I’ve tried them once before and was kind of grossed out, but yours looks good! And best gift I’ve given…well, I think it’s probably a homemade calendar I made with pictures of me and my siblings for my parents and grandmother.

I cannot say that overnight oats are my favorite. I haven’t made them in MONTHS because, honestly, I really prefer the taste and texture (and temperature!) of hot oats. Sometimes when it’s REALLY warm in the summer, I’ll make them so I have something cool to eat in the morning, but I would say it’s more a matter of necessity than preference!

lucky duck! I love biscotti! I was actually searching high and low the other day for a good recipe.
Best gift I’ve ever given was when I donated all of my formal dresses and prom dress to a high school for young girls who couldn’t afford a prom dress. Felt great doing that

Thanks for this giveaway Megan! The best and most memorable gift I ever received was when my boyfriend made me fortune cookies and wrote little love letters in each one!

i wish i could say my best given gift was food-related, but i think the best was surprising my boyfriend with a weekend at a private cabin type B&B in a small town (Fredericksburg, TX) where there was great stargazing and a very deep clawfoot tub. i adore giving gifts and christmas shopping and gift wrapping makes me so happy.
